Thread Vein Removal

Here at Barlaston Clinic we are pleased to offer you a range of cosmetic laser treatments using Laser and Intense Pulsed Light (IPL).

Thread Veins
Thread veins on the leg or face are commonly referred to as spider veins or broken veins. They are small blood vessels in the superficial layer of the skin (the dermis) which have become dilated and visible. The cause of thread veins most commonly is due to family history, smoking or sun exposure. Laser can get rid of these veins leaving the skin clear.

Rosacea
Rosacea is a skin condition that usually affects parts of your face such as your nose, cheeks and forehead. Tiny blood vessels dilate and become visible which gives the red/flushed appearance. The exact cause is unknown, but around 1 in 10 people in the UK are thought to develop rosacea. There is no one treatment that can cure rosacea but IPL has been found to help reduce the redness and make it more manageable.

Campbell de Morgan Spots
Campbell de Morgan spots, also known as cherry angiomas, are common, benign (non cancerous) skin growths made up of blood vessels. They appear as bright red, often described as “cherry red”. They can appear anywhere on the body, but are most often found on the torso. They range in size from the size of a pin head up to 10mm, and they may be flat or dome shaped. Quite often painless, these lesions are usually seen on middle age to older skin. The cause is unknown though some people may be genetically more likely to develop them. Pregnancy and several other possible factors have also been linked to them. There are various treatments used to remove these lesions but Yag laser is the easiest method that leaves no scaring and can usually clear these lesions in just one session.

How Does Laser Work
As with hair removal, laser targets pigment. In the case of blood vessels it is the blood pigment haemoglobin that is targeted. The heat generated from the laser causes coagulation of the blood inside the vessel. This then causes the vessels to collapse, at the same time not damaging the surrounding skin. The vessels darken to begin with and after a short time these vessels break up and disappear and all the coagulated waste products will be removed by the body's scavenging cells and the immune system.

Does it Hurt
Sensation varies depending on the area being treated. It is quite often described as “a flick of an elastic band”. On sensitive areas discomfort is reduced by using a cold air blower which cools the area being treated. This cooling of the skin reduces discomfort dramatically.

How Many Sessions
In the case of thread veins, usually 3-4 treatments done every 6-8 weeks are necessary to achieve total clearance but could be more depending on the size of the area to be cleared. Some small lesions may clear in just one session.

Quality treatments also include:

    Pigmentation (age spots)
    Acne, reducing inflammation
     and frequency of breakouts
Helping to reduce the appearance of
     fine lines and wrinkles
